pdf and HTML5, with or without javascript? How to customize the look and feel of the PDF toolbar? interactive links

Embedding PDFs without JavaScript

be careful:
As of iOS 9, none of these examples (without JavaScript) work properly in Safari for iOS.

PDF.js is a Portable Document Format (PDF) viewer that is built with HTML5. PDF.js is community-driven and supported by Mozilla Labs. Our goal is to create a general-purpose, web standards-based platform for parsing and rendering PDFs.

This extension provides PDF.js as the default PDF viewer in Chrome.

Embedding PDFs with JavaScript

example of PDFObject 2.0 library and Mozilla's PDF.js

PDFObject is not a rendering engine. PDFObject just writes an <embed> element to the page, and relies on the browser or browser plugins to render the PDF. If the browser does not support embedded PDFs, PDFObject is not capable of forcing the browser to render the PDF.

If you need to force browsers to display a PDF, we suggest using Mozilla's PDF.js. Note that PDF.js is subject to its own limitations, such as cross-domain security restrictions. PDFObject and PDF.js play well together, there are links to some great PDF.js examples in the Examples section below.

PDFObject does not provide the ability to customize the look and feel of the PDF toolbar. The toolbar is controlled by the browser, and will vary widely from browser to browser (Chrome versus Safari versus Firefox, etc.). Some of these browsers provide the ability to show or hide the toolbar, or a feature such as the search field, via PDF Open Parameters. However, in general the browsers do NOT provide any mechanism for customizing the toolbar. If you really need to customize the toolbar, try forking Mozilla's PDF.js and customizing it to suit your needs.

PDFObject does not validate the existence of the PDF, or that the PDF is actually rendered. The assumption is that you are specifying a valid URL and the network is functioning normally. PDFObject does not check for 404 errors, and JavaScript cannot detect whether the PDF actually renders, unless you are using PDF.js, which is outside the scope of PDFObject.

PDFObject does not magically implement PDF Open Parameters. As mentioned above, these parameters are not widely supported. The PDF rendering engine either supports them or doesn't — PDFObject cannot force the rendering engine to implement these features.

Altmetrics and free tools

If you click , you will get details:

In scholarly and scientific publishing, altmetrics are non-traditional metrics proposed as an alternative to more traditional citation impact metrics, such as impact factor and h-index.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altmetrics

free tools

https://www.altmetric.com/products/free-tools/

Altmetric Bookmarklet

The Altmetric bookmarklet enables you to instantly see Altmetric data for any published research output with a DOI.

It’s quick, free and easy to install in just 3 simple steps.

The Bookmarklet only works on PubMed, arXiv or pages containing a DOI
It only supports publishers who embed Google Scholar friendly citation metadata on their pages by default, though we’re adding support for others. You can hurry along support for a particular journal by asking @altmetric for it on Twitter

Institutional Repository badges

We offer free embeddable badges for repositories within academic institutions. They can be installed with just a few lines of code, and you can choose the style of badge you’d like to display. Users will be able to click on the badge to view the full details page for each research output.

examples:
-> HAL
-> Zenodo

Explorer for Academic Librarians

We offer free individual access to the Altmetric Explorer for Publishers for academic librarians based within universities. This version of the Explorer can be used to browse and filter all of the research outputs in the Altmetric database, but does not include any institutional views, functionality or reporting. Please email us to request an account.

Real-time updates

Our attention data is collated and updated in real time – meaning you start to get feedback on your publications almost as soon as they’re made available online.

Email alerts

Set up daily, weekly or monthly email alerts to receive regular updates on the attention surrounding content you care about, delivered straight to your inbox.

Powerful search & filtering

Browse all articles in the database, or filter by specific journals, publishers, or time last mentioned. Enter unique identifiers (including DOIs, ISBNs, PubMed IDs, arXiv IDs and Handles) to track specific items. Alternatively, search for individual outputs using keywords.

Export data

All of the data in the Explorer can be exported via Excel or an API to be used in other internal reporting or dashboards.

Badges for Individual Researchers

Individual researchers can embed our badges for free too! It’s a great way to add context to your personal website or online CV, and can help demonstrate the reach of your work to visitors.

Once embedded you can click on the badge to view the full details page for each research output.

API for research

http://api.altmetric.com/

We’re happy to provide free access to the Altmetric API for academic research purposes. Please see the API page for information about the different levels of API access we offer.

If you’d like to request a key or have any questions about how the API works and the data you’re gathering, please email us.

t's free to use this API to fetch basic alt-metrics information about articles & datasets and to use that information in your own apps and mashups - just give altmetric.com attribution somewhere.

However, if you'd like to download the data in bulk, perform more complex queries, remove the rate limits and see more detailed data about articles then you'll need a commercial license (if you'd like to let us know about your use case you can reach us at info@altmetric.com).

If you'd like to use the data in an academic research project then let us know and we can grant you a free license for non-commercial use.

Want to see some examples of what's possible? Check out our API gallery.

Mendeley Elsevier 2.x , publication and data (DOI per dataset)

Mendeley is a free reference manager and academic social network that can help you organize your research, collaborate with others online, and discover the latest research.

see an open alternative: zotero
(see my posts with the tag "zotero").

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mendeley
Mendeley was purchased by the Elsevier publishing company in 2013. The sale led to debate on scientific networks and in the media interested in Open Access, and upset members of the scientific community who felt that the program's acquisition by publishing giant Elsevier, known for implementing restrictive publishing practices, the high prices of their journals, and publicly supporting the SOPA bill, was antithetical to the open sharing model of Mendeley. David Dobbs, in The New Yorker, suggested Elsevier's reasons for buying Mendeley could have been to acquire its user data and/or to "destroy or coopt an open-science icon that threatens its business model."

Your published research data will include a Force11 compliant citation so that other researchers can effortlessly cite your research. We will also provide a unique DOI for each version of your dataset, so that your dataset's citation will always be valid.

Mendeley Data assigns a provisional DOI to draft datasets. The issuing of a permanent DOI for Mendeley Data submitted datasets is carried out by the British Library via DataCite. It is used to make a document/reference uniquely identifiable from any other document/reference when your article is published and made available electronically. Save references to Mendeley from Chrome easily!

Mendeley is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organise, cite and share your research sources.

With the Mendeley Web Importer extension, you are able to easily save references and PDF files into your personal library with a single click. You’ll need to have a Mendeley account already set up in order to use the Mendeley Web Importer. Creating a Mendeley account takes just a couple of minutes.

To use the new Mendeley Web Importer for Chrome, you just need to be viewing an article or a list of references in the browser. This can mean that you’re looking at an actual PDF file, an article entry in an online catalog, or even a list of search results. The Mendeley Web Importer extension will scan the page for metadata, and provide you with a list of the results it finds.

Click on the red Mendeley button next to the address bar in Chrome to import the content you are currently viewing. Depending on the number of results the Importer finds, you’ll be provided with a list of different items, or specific details of a single item. You can then review the details, and even make manual corrections within the Importer itself, before choosing to add the references to your personal Mendeley library.

Zotero translators : import metadata bibliography and export (TEI P5)

Translators are at the core of one of Zotero’s most popular features: its ability to import and export item metadata from and to a variety of formats. Below we describe how translators work, and how you can write your own.

Zotero translators are stored as individual JavaScript files in the “translators” subdirectory of the Zotero data directory.
https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#locating_your_zotero_library
for example:
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<randomstring>/zotero/Translators

Each translator contains a JSON metadata header, followed by the translator’s JavaScript code.

https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/translators

https://github.com/zotero/translators

Data formats

list pf all import/export
https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/data_formats

The main problem is the quality of the js code for the mapping.
https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/field_mappings

For example, the "Hal archive ouverte.js" does not import the Id of authors (and affiliation (in Hal it's an internal number; no Id of affiliation))

export file "TEI" in Hal (the other formats have no Id).

see ORCID
ORCID identifier
This element is used to record the ORCID iD of users. The ORCID iD is formed of a 16-digit number
Within <orcid-identifier> the iD will be recorded in the following child elements:
    <uri> the full path to the ORCID record
    <path> just the 16 digit ORCID identifier
    <host> the domain of the uri
 <orcid-identifier>
    <uri>http://orcid.org/0000-0001-5727-2427</uri>
    <path>0000-0001-5727-2427</path>
    <host>orcid.org</host>
 </orcid-identifier>

Organization Affiliation
The affiliations section of an ORCID record in XML is recorded under <orcid-activities>. This area is separate from the <orcid-bio> fields.
XML for Affiliations for more information: http://members.orcid.org/api/xml-affiliations

Funding information
The Funding section of an ORCID record is recorded under <orcid-activities>.  For information about adding funding via the API see XML for funding.

https://members.orcid.org/api/record-xml-structure

ORCID can be used in repository systems to clearly link authors – and all their name variants - with their research work, improving search and retrieval. Repository systems can also exchange data with the ORCID registry -for example, retreiving ORCID record information in order to populate author profiles and updating ORCID records with publication information each time repository deposit is made.
https://members.orcid.org/repositories

Import

https://www.zotero.org/support/getting_stuff_into_your_library

 Zotero can import from various bibliographic formats:
  • Zotero RDF, Bibliontology RDF
  • MODS (Metadata Object Description Schema)
  • BibTeX (rich format but lacks of standardization)
  • CSL JSON
  • Endnote XML (this is actually very similar to RIS in importing from Endnote, but may have some small advantages and is one of the few styles that will preserve italics across imports.)
  • MAB2, MARC, MARCXML
  • MEDLINE/nbib
  • OVID Tagged
  • PubMed XML
  • RIS (this can be convenient for quick edits between export & import because of its simple structure)
  • RefWorks Tagged (recommend for ReferenceWorks)
  • Web of Science Tagged
  • Refer/BibIX (discourage if any other option present)
  • XML ContextObject
  • Unqualified Dublin Core RDF

export via TEI.js

The tei-zotero-translator is a simple translator that seeks to bridge the gap between editing documents following the TEI Guidelines and maintaining the bibliographies with Zotero <http://www.zotero.org>.

The translator exports items from the Zotero database to TEI biblStruct elements. It integrates with Zotero, such that it is possible to select TEI as a target export format. Initially, it has been developed to create bibliographies for papers written in TEI P5, but should as well be useful for other projects.

"Rechercher et remplacer" est  une fonction standard dans les applications de traitement de texte que les utilisateurs attendent lors de l`édition de contenu.

Pour améliorer la fonction chercher

Find one or more words on a page and don't worry about their connection or inflection (replacing the glass = replaced all glasses)
With efTwo (F2) Advanced find on Page you can easily skim through a page: just open up your new search box (tap F twice), type in the words you are looking for and efTwo will highlight all words on the page, no matter what inflection they use (or if you visited the page from a search engine, the keywords might already be in the box.

By default, JavaScript is not allowed to read or set your clipboard data for security and privacy reasons. This is because websites scripts can erase and replace what you currently have in your clipboard (data loss issue) and they can read whatever you have in your clipboard (security and privacy issue); as such, you should grant access with caution. There are, however, instances when you might want to bypass this restriction for certain sites. Rich text editors (such as implementations of Mozilla's Midas) often require access to the clipboard to use copy/paste functions. Other sites may copy useful information to the clipboard for the user to paste elsewhere.

Build your own editor with Substance Converter. A scientific article (schema) or a story map is more complex than a blog post.

Substance is a library for creating web-based WYSIWYG editors with all the features you would expect.
A JavaScript library for web-based content editing.
https://github.com/substance/

As opposed to other existing editors, such as TinyMCE, Aloha etc. Substance is not just a widget you include into your web app. It is a library. Widgets are often not good enough. They lead to a bad UX. They are like alien isles within the web-app. And those are very limited regarding customization.
The unique point of Substance is Customizability. You can customize everything. And we make this as simple as possible for you.

Building an editor starts with the data. For instance, a scientific article is more complex than a blog post. Still, there is some similarity. Both of them have paragraphs, for instance. In Substance you define a schema, containing a set of Node descriptions:

class Todo extends TextBlock {} Todo.define({ type: 'todo', content: 'text', done: { type: 'bool', default: false} })

Probably you are already using a certain data format, XML files or HTML. With Substance you can create a custom converter very easily:

export default { type: 'todo', tagName: 'div', matchElement: function(el) { return el.is('div') && el.hasClass('todo') }, import: function(el, node, converter) { node.content = converter.annotatedText(el, [node.id, 'content']) node.done = el.attr('data-done') === '1' }, export: function(node, el, converter) { el.append(converter.annotatedText([node.id, 'content'])) .addClass('todo') .attr('done', node.done ? '1': '0'); } }

The site claims to be able to support PDF, GIF, BMP, JPEG, TIFF, and PNG as input. Outputs can either be DOC, a PDF text document, RTF, and TXT.
The tool recognizes over 60 languages, can handle multi-column layouts (by removing the formatting), has no file-size limits, can convert uploaded files and from URLs. And you don’t need to register to use this tool either.
The service works by simply extracting the text from your image, then outputting unformatted text. You can quickly correct any mistakes in the side-by-side view, before copying the text to other programs, or downloading as DOC, PDF, or HTML.
Online OCR currently supports 46 different languages, and can convert PDF, JPG, BMP, TIFF, and GIF into Word, Excel, or Plain Text format. The site claims “converted documents look exactly like the original — tables, columns and graphics”.
The version you can use without registering allows you to convert up to 15 images per hour (5mb limit). If you sign up for an account, you can purchase more pages on top of this limit, while also being able to convert multi-page documents and ZIP archives, too.
Absolutely fantastic results from Online OCR. The only downside I see is that there’s no way to download the converted documents as PDFs as the output formats mentioned include DOCX, XLSX, and TXT only.

ABBYY FineReader Online (10-Page Trial)
As mentioned earlier, ABBYY is one of the market leaders in OCR software, costing around $150 for their full, downloadable program. They do offer a 10-page free trial for their online tool, though (registration required). For a $5 subscription, their online tool will allow you to convert 200 pages every month.

Scan & Manage Your Receipts

Smartphone Scanners
 There are some excellent apps out there for scanning paper to file, regardless of which operating system you use.
The Best Mobile Scanning Apps of 2016:

 I decided to use Evernote’s Scannable app (Free on iOS and Android).
for android, see:

Camscanner (free without OCR).

Google Drive

Not everybody knows about Google Drive’s scanning capabilities, so if you have the app they may come as a pleasant surprise. All you need to do is tap Add New and you should see the option to scan.

As you’d expect, your scans are automatically stored on your Drive (in PDF format), but what you might not expect from a free app is Drive’s built-in optical character recognition. That means your scans are searchable for specific words or phrases, which can be an enormous time saver.

http://cartodb.github.io/odyssey.js/documentation/#how-it-works

exporter / partager votre narrative story map

#slides_container{display:none;position:absolute;top:40px;left:40px;width:320px;

"Version 51.0beta, first offered to Beta channel users on November 16, 2016":
Added support for WebGL 2 (is now enabled by default).

http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_hn.asp
les HTML <h1> to <h6> Tags.

http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_headings.asp

https://ladybirdr.blogspot.fr/2014/11/personnaliser-et-ajouter-une-image-aux.html
http://www.leblogger.com/2011/11/entetes-h2-h3-h4-article-referencement.html

h2 { font-size: 22px; font-weight: normal; border-style: solid; border-left: 7px solid red;border-width: 0 0 0px 7px; background-color: #fcfcfc; padding: 3px; margin-top: 10px; }
h2.date-header { font-size: 15px; font-weight: normal;border-style: hidden;background-color:#ffefdb;}
h2.title { font-size: 15px; font-weight: normal;border-style: hidden;background-color:#ffffff;}
h3 { font-size: 20px; font-weight: normal; border-style: solid; border-color: #ccdef0; border-width: 0 0 2px 5px; padding: 3px; margin-top: 10px; }
h3.post-title { background-color: #eedfcc; font-size: 22px; font-weight: normal; border-style: solid; border-color: #555500; border-width: 0 0 2px 10px; padding: 5px; margin-top: 10px; }
h4 { font-size: 18px; font-weight: normal; border-style: solid; border-color: #eedfcc; border-width: 0 0 1px 3px; padding: 3px; margin-top:10px; margin-bottom:5px; }
h5 { font-size: 15px; border-style: solid; border-color: #555500; border-width: 0 0 2px 0px; padding-left: 3px; }

Remarques:

Utilisation de scoped (The scoped attribute is new in HTML5):
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml5_style_scoped

http://www.websitesbymark.co.uk/posts/the-h4-html-tag/
